Dear Crystal Star Customer:

We take your health and wellness, and your trust, very seriously. In line with that commitment and our company values, we have proactively initiated a recall of select products after learning of issues related to a former supplier, ABH Nature’s Products, Inc. ABH is under a court order to cease distribution and recall all products due to mislabeling and manufacturing violations. The court order involves all products manufactured by ABH since 2013.

We want to stress that, at this time, there are no known health or safety risks and no reports of illnesses related to these products. Nonetheless, we at Crystal Star and our parent company, Healthy Healing, are unwavering in our commitment to your safety and our product quality. To our knowledge, we are the first among more than 850 affected companies to take this proactive recall action on behalf of our customers.

You can be confident in your future Crystal Star purchases. We track all products for adverse reactions, complaints, and any dissatisfaction-based returns by lot code. We’ve seen no trends in complaints and/or returns tied to specific ABH-produced lots. In addition, since mid-2019 we have conducted third-party testing on all product lots, including both ABH-produced products and those from our other manufacturing partners. We have not identified any products that tested outside baseline standards for product variance and are confident that all products are considered safe.

In July 2019, Healthy Healing cut ties with ABH and completed the transition to new manufacturing partners. Our current partners align well with our shared values of quality and transparency. Each is third-party certified for good manufacturing practices.

Why are you recalling Crystal Star products?

In late December 2019, a U.S. District Court ordered ABH Nature’s Products, Inc. to cease distribution of adulterated and mislabeled dietary supplements. The consent decree also ordered ABH to recall all of the products it had manufactured from 2013 through December 2019, affecting over 800 companies including Crystal Star parent company Healthy Healing. Although we cut ties with ABH in July 2019, this recall affects select Crystal Star products manufactured from 2013 through 2019.

To our knowledge, we are the first of these 856 companies to issue a recall on behalf of our customers, a step for which regional FDA contacts have commended us.

When we learned of the ABH recall on January 17, 2020, we immediately quarantined all ABH-produced products in our warehouse and removed them from our website. We have also instructed our retailers and brokers to remove these products from their shelves and destroy them. Our swift action and precautionary steps are part of our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our consumers. The trust of our consumers and retailers what we value most, and it’s why we’ve been in business since 1978.

The FDA discovered that ABH was in violation of mandatory Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) even through Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certified them as compliant. Following cGMP is required before putting these products into interstate commerce. We decided to recall the ABH-produced products since the integrity of every product cannot be 100% guaranteed.

This recall affects specific lots codes of our Crystal Star products that were manufactured by ABH. Because we formally ended our relationship with ABH in July 2019 and brought on new manufacturing partners, we have products in the marketplace that were not produced by ABH and are not part of this recall.

To date, there are no reports of consumer illnesses or injuries associated with any affected products. There are no known health or safety risks associated with any Crystal Star product. As standard procedure, we track all adverse reactions, complaints and dissatisfaction returns by lot code. We have seen no trends in complaints and/or returns tied to specific ABH-produced lots.

In addition, we have conducted third-party testing on all product lots since mid-2019 and no tested products have been outside baseline standards (verifying that only the listed ingredients are what is present in the product). Our tests include both ABH-produced products and those from our other manufacturing partners.

We want to stress that all affected product lots have passed our third-party quality control testing, which have found no health or safety risks in our supplements. Our products are sold in retail outlets nationwide and overseas under the Crystal Star brand name. We also offer direct-to-consumer online sales.

Healthy Healing distributes Crystal Star products directly to over a thousand outlets, including major retail chains. We are working closely with affected authorized resellers to ensure that recalled products are removed from their shelves and properly destroyed.

We are working with our retail customers to determine how much of the specific product lot codes they have that must be removed and destroyed. We have quarantined and will destroy any product that remains in our own inventory.

We’ve been working with new manufacturing partners since ending our relationship with ABH in July 2019. For this reason, our top selling products remain unaffected. These include Bladder Support, Candida Balance, Cellulite Tone, Fibro Defense, GI Support, Heartease, Inflama Relief, Male Performance, Men’s Libido, Muscle Relax, Kidney Care and Women’s Best Friend.

However, a select number of products may be temporarily unavailable as we replace the affected inventory. We’re working to do this as quickly as possible but a few items will be out of stock for two or three months. We’re committed to continuing to supply our retailers and consumers with the high-quality Crystal Star products they count on.

Healthy Healing has had new manufacturing partners in place since July 2019. These partners align well with our shared values of quality and transparency. Each is third-party certified for good manufacturing practices.

As part of the recall we initiated, we’ve sent information to our 1,000-plus retailers and broker partners on the process for certifying removal and destruction. Please contact us at 1-800-736-6015, Press 1 or recall@HealthyHealing.com for a recall packet. Once these steps are complete, you will receive credit for these products.

Please discontinue using the product. If you wish, contact the retailer where you purchased the product for a refund. The retailer will receive credit for the product after destroying it and filing the appropriate paperwork. In addition, we have conducted third-party test on all product lots since mid-2019 and have not identified any products that tested outside baseline standards. This testing included both ABH-produced products and those from our other manufacturing partners.

ABH was a long-time supplier for Healthy Healing’s Crystal Star products. In 2017, Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a respected testing and standards firm, certified ABH as a Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) supplier. That certification was valid for three years.

In late 2018, we became concerned with ABH’s business operations but still believed, based on the UL certification, that their operations were sound. The products that ABH produced had a shelf life of three years. As a result, any product produced after January 2017 was still verified to be safe and effective and remained in our system.

ABH notified us of the U.S. District Court consent decree and subsequent recall of its products on Jan. 17, 2020. Since that time, we’ve proactively reached out to our customers and brokers to ask them to destroy any affected product on shelves or in inventory.

At this time, the FDA’s formal action is limited to its order that ABH recall product from its customers, including Healthy Healing. There has not been any further direction from the FDA.
